Phnom Penh: The Minister attached to Prime Minister, Kao Kim Hourn said India will provide a loan around 1 billion US dollars for the tripartite highway project of India, Myanmar, and Thailand, which can also reach to Cambodia.

In a video online meeting between the Prime Minister Hun Sen and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday afternoon (May 18), both sides are praised the cooperation between the two countries in the past.

PM Hun Sen urged India to promote the development of the tripartite expressway from India to Myanmar and Thailand to continue to Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi confirmed that India will include this project to Cambodia.

Indian Prime Minister also highlighted the benefits that Cambodia receives through Mekong-Gangetic cooperation as projects and scholarships for students.

India considers Cambodia an important political partner in its eastward policy.

India's Look East policy is an effort to cultivate broad-based economic and strategic ties with the nations of Southeast Asia to strengthen its position as a regional power and a burden against the strategic influence of the People's Republic of China. The policy began in 1991 and was officially announced in 2014 by the administration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
